Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey rematch already on the cards
A boxing and kickboxing champion, Holm used her speed and footwork to keep away from Rousey, an Olympic judoka, known for her takedowns and arm bar hold that usually ends fights with Rousey knocking out her opponents.
Not only did Holm earn the Fight of the Night bonus, she also took home a Performance of the Night award.
Rousey, a former judo Olympian, was reportedly whisked to the hospital following her knockout loss to receive treatment.
A dazed Ronda Rousey is seen to after being felled in the octagon. Ronda with her 12-0 record took on Holly with a 9-0 record in MMA. Rousey’s complete dominance in the sport was starting to get boring. Firstly, she sickened the Californian with a huge left to the jaw, before finishing off the flailing champion with a flush left kick to the head that put her on the canvas.
Rousey was shockingly knocked out by challenger Holly Holm, who dominated for a second-round victory at UFC 193.
Many had speculated that Rousey would be a part of a huge fight at UFC 200 in July, whether it be against longtime foe Cris “Cyborg” Justino, or her new rival in Holly Holm.
“I don’t know”, Holm said.
“There were a lot of things going through my mind, and I just wanted to make sure that I was focused every minute of the fight, and that’s [the head kick is] one of the things I would think about”, she said.
“Everything that we talked about is essentially what went down”, UFC president Dana White said to Fox Sports 1’s Ariel Helwani, adding that he thought Rousey had earned an immediate rematch whenever she wants one. “It’s the fight that makes sense”, White told TMZ.
She however struggled to cope with the strikes from Holm and was knocked out cold in the second round.
Former boxing world champion Holm has now become the first person to ever win world titles in both boxing and mixed martial arts. “Obviously she is completely bummed out and depressed, but that is it”.
