Holly Holm’s first UFC title defence won’t be against Ronda Rousey
Holm was a significant underdog going into the fight but managed to completely dominate Rousey before scoring a second-round knockout with the help of a vicious head kick and punches. Tate has won her last four fights and would be a great name to add to Holm’s combat sports resume. He announced Wednesday on Fox Sports 1’s “UFC Tonight” that Holm will fight someone else before she fights Rousey again.
As for Ronda, she is still two of the biggest stars in the UFC despite her setback and fans will surely watch her fight.
All along, Holm and her manager, Lenny Fresquez, sought to avoid the extended wait for Rousey, who will film a remake of “Roadhouse” in Patrick Swayze’s role of the bar bouncer before the rematch.
She’ll take on the daunting feat of hosting “Saturday Night Live,” joining the ranks of other athletes who’ve headlined the show, like Peyton Manning, Derek Jeter, and Chris Evert. “I haven’t had one business conversation with her since her fight”.
“We have officially signed a multiyear extension with the UFC”, Fresquez told ESPN.com.
White has said on several occasions the organization’s plan was for Holm’s first title defense would come against Rousey, most likely on July 9 on the historic UFC 200 card.
But Holm expressed the desire to compete before the July event. “Ronda has dedicated the last three-plus years to working hard here”.
A lucrative rematch has been widely anticipated since but it appears that will come later in the year, with Holm set to return to action against another opponent first.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s former women’s bantamweight champion will host Saturday Night Live on January 23, the show announced Tuesday.
