Holly Holm’s Next Fight WON’T Be Ronda Rousey Rematch Says Dana White
It was expected that an immediate rematch would be ordered, likely for UFC 200 in July, but president Dana White has now said Holm will have a fight in the interim.
Rousey still has four months to go in her six-month suspension from fighting in the UFC because of the concussion she suffered in the knockout loss to Holm on November 14.
White didn’t elaborate beyond telling the crew of “UFC Tonight” on Fox Sports 1 that, “Holly Holm will fight before she fights Ronda again”.
UFC star Ronda Rousey has signed on to host NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on January 23 in NY. She will be the first MMA fighter to host the show, even though boxers George Foreman and Marvin Hagler have previously done it. Rousey is no longer the UFC bantamweight champion.
Though she is best known for her skills as a mixed martial artist, Rousey’s acting resume is nothing to sneeze at. Rousey has already beaten Tate twice, albeit in relatively tough matches, and a third fight between those two wouldn’t command almost the public interest that Rousey-Holm 2 would.
In the same report, Fresquez also said that UFC was going to make an announcement later this week about Holm’s next fight, which he also hoped to be sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately, White gave few details: no word on when the fight will take place, or whom Holm will fight.
As far as when the UFC’s golden girl will come back, White said it’s not a matter of if, but when.
An obvious opponent for Holm would be Miesha Tate (17-5).
Saturday Night Live is still on their holiday break until next week, but news is coming out the show’s upcoming hosts.
‘Ronda has dedicated the last three-plus years to working hard here.
