Hollywood Woman Shot and Killed Over Financial Dispute; Suspect Arrested: LAPD
The shooter approached wordlessly and fired on Melvin from behind, hitting her in the back of the head, and then fled in a black sedan, according to police. Carrie Jean Melvin was walking with her boyfriend down a Hollywood street earlier this month when a man very nonchalantly walked up behind her and instantly killed her by putting a shotgun to her head and shooting.
Melvin was walking with her boyfriend along McCadden Place about 10 p.m., near Sunset Boulevard.
“We have been working hard around the clock on this and we didn’t want to draw attention to the leads we developed”, Lt. John Radke told the Los Angeles Times.
Police say Obioha and Melvin were involved in a “financial dispute”, but wouldn’t elaborate beyond that. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators initially described the shooting as a “random act of violence”.
Obioha also reportedly served on the LAPD’s community advisory board in the Wilshire district as the secretary to the Picfair Village Community Assn., covering the neighborhood near Pico Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
Melvin moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in the entertainment industry after studying film and digital media production at University of California Santa Cruz.
According to Melvin’s LinkedIn profile, she became CEO of a social media management company in June.
Carrie Jean Melvin is shown in a photo posted to her Facebook page on July 4, 2015, the day before she died.
