Homeless man finds stolen Army weapons in Bronx park
A small cache of stolen military weapons was returned to its Army Reserve base after a homeless man rummaging for recyclables discovered a trash bag loaded with the iron in a Bronx park and alerted police, according to reports.
On Friday, a homeless man found three out of the 16 weapons (not pictured) that were taken from the Lincoln Stoddard Army Reserve Center in Worcester, Mass. last week.
DNA evidence from inside the armory matched that of Morales who most recently faced charges in May of child rape and indecent assault on a child under 14 years old in Cambridge.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, MA State Police and NY Police have successfully removed five of the six M-4 rifles and four of the 10 M-11 pistols.
Police say a blood sample at the armory was traced to Morales.
Morales, 34, waived identity and probable cause hearings during an appearance yesterday in a Long Island, N.Y., courtroom, according to a spokeswoman for the USA attorney’s office in NY.
It’s alleged that Morales gained entry to the building by breaking in a window in the kitchen near the drill room, then climbed to the top of the weapons vault and where he cut through the ceiling using a power saw and pry bar. The weapons recovered in the recycling are only 3 of the 16 that were reported stolen.
