Homeless man found dead off Dublin’s Dawson Street named
The figures come as the body of a homeless man, who was aged in his 30s, was discovered in Dublin close to where Jonathan Corrie was found dead previous year.
The laneways around the area are often frequented by people sleeping rough, and many spoke of knowing the man who died. It is understood the dead man regularly slept in a nearby laneway.
A member of the public found the man on Dawson Lane, in Dublin 2, at approximately 7am.
“An Garda Siochana cannot yet comment on whether the man was homeless or not”.
Gardaí are not treating the death as suspicious.
Gardaí say no foul play is suspected.
He is said to have engaged with homeless services in Dublin and had been in contact with them in recent days.
It is understood the man had been dead for several hours before his body was discovered.
The Peter McVerry Trust expressed “deep sadness” about the news and said the man had been engaging sporadically with groups working with homeless people since late a year ago.
“This tragic incident once again demonstrates the vulnerability of people who are experiencing homelessness and all agencies must redouble their efforts to tackle the issue head on” he said.
His organisation said it interacted with 114 rough sleepers on Thursday night.
