HomeSwipe Right for Bernie Sanders? Not So Fast, Tinder Warns
Reuters reported on the cases of two women who got notices their accounts were being locked after being reported for sending too much pro-Sanders’ material to prospective matches.
Reuters reported that Robyn Gedrich, 23, has been locked out of her account since last week. Please text WORK to 82623 for me.
Gedrich told Reuters that some of the replies she got from men simply said, “Trump2016”. She was able to change her location with the premium version of the app, so she could talk with people in New Hampshire, as well as Iowa.
To help other people “feel the bern”, Gedrich says she swipes right on every person who pops up on the app. The app limits you to 50 swipes per day, so Gerdich says she uses all her swipes and reaches out to everyone who matches with her. For the record, Gedrich isn’t officially working for the Sanders campaign.
“If they said no or were on the fence, I would try to talk to them and persuade them to vote”, she said.
Gedrich, an assistant store manager at retailer Elie Tahari who lives in Brick, New Jersey, said a text would prompt people to start receiving updates from the Sanders campaign, as well as a link where they could sign up and volunteer.
Perhaps more surprisingly, these two are likely not the only ones using Tinder in such a manner, as Reuters uncovered a Facebook group entitled “Bernie Sanders Dank Tinder Convos” which has almost 800 members.
The Vermont senator’s famously enthusiastic backers reportedly are getting banned from the dating app for trying to use it to blast out campaign messages in support of their candidate. O , did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
“I was happy to see that people who once didn’t know anything about Bernie learned about him and the corruption he’s fighting”, Gedrich told TI.
None of her matches resulted in an actual date, she said.
