Homophobic clerk Kim Davis not elligible for GoFundMe Campaign
While Kentucky clerk Kim Davis sits in jail for being in contempt of court after refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, her lawyers are hard at work trying to clean up her mess and the judge is in a bind when it comes to hitting her where it hurts.
“As long as it takes”, Joe Davis said. Kim Davis is the first victim of this tragedy. So before we start talking about whether this is a good religious liberty case, or not, before we start distancing our educated selves from her simple faith, and before we take to the internet to show the liberal gestapo that we really are for the “rule of law” and that Kim Davis is a simpleton of a Christian who should have resigned before embarrassing us Christians-let’s just step back from this fog and think with a faithful mind.
In his lengthy Facebook post (shown above), he wrote: “Is it so hard to allow this women (sic) her religion?… or must we destroy her in order for here (sic) to betray her faith”. Roberts says she doesn’t want to be a hero, “just want to be a woman who got a marriage license today”. In 2011, President Obama, an elected official, chose to stop defending the federal law known as the Defense of Marriage Act. “The county clerk has presented her position through the federal court system, all of the way to the U.S. Supreme Court“. He says he doesn’t know how long she will be jailed, but she has no intention of resigning and she will not violate her conscience. But nobody is denying Davis freedom to believe what she wishes; she’s merely being ordered to do what she swore to do: “faithfully execute the duties of my office without favor”. Her authorized group is hopeful as we speak’s attraction on the contempt order will get the Rowan County clerk out of jail quickly.
“Government officials are free to disagree with the law, but not disobey it”, U.S. Attorney Kerry B. Harvey said in a statement.
Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, which represented Davis, said he was stunned by Thursday’s ruling ordering Davis to jail.
Kim Davis belongs in jail. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, for his part, said previous year that his state wouldn’t comply with a federal prison-rape law.
Davis’ plight has reignited the gay marriage debate and the limits of religious freedom and her imprisonment has inspired spirited protests from both sides.
“We have a rich history in the United States of accommodating conscientious objectors”, Anderson said.
Her deputy clerks then issued marriage licences to gay couples on Friday with Davis behind bars.
I do not object to Davis’ beliefs, which I do believe are honest, but I do wonder at times when people claim they are taking the “higher ground” on morality issues on whether they are truly consistent in their beliefs.
Davis said she’s a different person since becoming a Christian four and a half years ago. A Twitter acquaintance said, “I am positive the state is required to make an accommodation if feasible, which it certainly is”. By failing to do so, Davis subjected herself to the natural consequences of breaking the law.
