Honda Accord (facelift) revealed with Apple CarPlay
The vehicle company opened a new research and development facility in Mountain View Thursday, the company’s largest such facility outside of its headquarters in Japan.
Interfaces such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto give drivers a familiar media interface that they can use safely while driving, with voice control a vital element of the new technology.
On the outside, the 2016 Accord gets new headlight and taillight clusters, a more sculpted aluminium hood, optional 19-inch alloy wheels and redesigned front and rear bumpers. The vehicle will be available in the same four- and six-cylinder engine variations as the 2015 Accord. Not only that, but Honda says that this new Accord is “among the first high-volume cars” in the marketplace to feature both smart auto software packages. Apple CarPlay is compatible with iOS 7.1 or later and iPhone 5 or later. This advanced platform will be made available in both coupe and sedan variants of the auto.
Technology is transforming the auto industry, said Frank Paluch, the president of Honda R&D Americas.
On EX and higher trims of the new Accord, the audio and digital system are significantly upgraded.
Honda says the the new Accord will have a 7.7-inch high-resolution display can display audio settings, directions, incoming calls, parking sensor and camera alerts, SMS text messages when stopped, along with steering wheel-mounted controls. Features have been rejigged across the line-up, while feature additions include rain-sensing wipers, heated rear seats and 60:40 split folding rear seats.
