Honda BR-V Compact SUV Makes Its Global Debut
Honda has unveiled the BR-V seven-seater SUV at the Indonesian international Auto Show this week, however if you were expecting a plus-sized companion to the CR-V, prepare to be disappointed. With a day to go before the official unveil, spy images of the car without any camouflage have surfaced on the internet. Its list of exterior features comprises improved ground clearance, 16-inch alloy wheels, black plastic cladding on the wheel arches and side skirts, plastic under-body protection, and roof rails. Despite having a small size, the BR-V will be coming with 7-seats to offer and it will be running on a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine.
The Honda BR-V compact SUV is scheduled for a launch in Indonesia in early 2016, which will then be followed by the car’s launch in other countries. The BR-V is based on the Mobilio, a people-mover sold in a number of global markets. Indonesia will get two transmission choices, an Earth Dreams CVT or a new six-speed manual gearbox.
The safety features on the prototype BR-V include dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and a hill-start assist.
The accompanying release mentions that the BR-V promises class-leading space with additional knee room and headroom, and elements such as the automaker’s Multi-Information Display and a rear AC blower (between the first and second row seats) are set to be featured. “We believe Honda BR-V will be greatly received by customers in Indonesia and become the main attraction in this year’s motor show”, said Noriaki Abe, Chief Operating Officer for Regional Operation at Honda. Upon its arrival in India, i.e. next year, the Honda BR-V will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.
