Honda FCV revealed ahead of Tokyo
This is the first picture of the Honda fuel-cell, which is not yet definitively named.
Still, it appears Honda is taking a similar approach to rival Toyota and its 2016 Mirai, using expressive styling to advertise the hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain.
The design of the FCV is noteworthy, since entire fuel-cell powertrain fits under the hood of the auto, allowing room for more cabin space. Motivation is provided by a 130-kilowatt electric motor.
The sedan will have seating for five, and an estimated range of 700 kilometers (434 miles), Honda says.
The Japanese specification FCV can also act as a mobile power plant thanks to its external power feeding inverter, meaning that it will generate and provide electricity to communities in the case of an emergency.
The booth will also highlight Suzuki’s latest production models-including the new ESCUDO sport utility vehicle (called the new Vitara in markets outside Japan), which the company plans to launch on 15 October. The FCV is the successor to the Honda FCX Clarity.
Honda’s Wander Stand concept isn’t a traditional, full-speed automobile, rather, it’s a small-footprint mobility solution created to let let occupants move freely in any direction within pedestrian traffic. The car’s actual name will be revealed during Tokyo Motor Show press days.
Honda will also be exhibiting several concept models, including Honda Project 2&4 powered by RC213V, which made its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
On the motorcycle side, Honda will show a new Light Weight Super Sports Concept and hybridized Neowing three-wheeler.
