Honda’s Baby NSX Could Debut as Early as November
As a result, a platform almost identical to the NSX’s will be used alongside a hybrid powertrain incorporating the small turbocharged 2.0-litre engine from the 2015 Civic Type R. Elsewhere, all-wheel drive will be featured alongside an advanced all-wheel steering system.
In between, apart from a successor for the CR-Z hybrid due by 2018, Honda is also plotting a radical replacement for the S2000 roadster, to slot neatly into the middle of its mid-engined two-door line-up. Some specific measures executed under his watch included the development of the new NSX supercar primarily in the U.S., the expansion of Acura’s local motorsport program, and a new partnership formed with Galpin Auto Sportsfor a SEMA concept. The four will spin the rear wheels, while an electric motor will be tasked with zapping the front wheels when additional power and grip are needed.
Although the sports auto will presumably be cheaper than the NSX, it is still expected to employ plenty of aluminum and carbon fiber to keep weight down. It could be built alongside the NSX at Acura’s new Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, a move that would allow Honda to benefit from economies of scale. The exterior design is said to be “for all intents and purposes, completed”, a source told Australia’s Motoring.
