Hong Kong Action Star Donnie Yen To Appear In Star Wars VIII?
Donnie Yen has reportedly joined the casts of “Star Wars: Episode VIII”. As the sparse details of the report imply, Yen would prospectively play a Jedi, who, by some fateful set of circumstances, becomes a friend to Harrison Fords Han Solo in the battle against the neo-Imperial organization known as The First Order.
Shooting is now said to have started on the 2016 release, almost two months sooner than expected – one possible reason might be the creation of a teaser trailer.
Apply Daily, a Hong Kong based newspaper, reports that martial artist and movie star Donnie Yen (“Ip Man” trilogy) has been cast in Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII“. Among the hopefuls, Yen and Jet Li remained the top two contenders due to their fighting skills. Eventually, the offer was allegedly handed to Yen whose $4 million fee per movie is a clear difference from Li’s $10 million fee. However, the superstar also turned out to be super expensive, which is why the role ultimately went to Yen instead, or so the rumors have it. Other contenders for the role apparently were Tony Leung, Chiu Wai, Wang Leehom, Chang Chen, Daniel Wu and Stephen Chow. According to Straits Times, Apple Daily didn’t provide any direct sources who can provide confirmation for its news.
The suggestion is supported by Twitchfilm which, while cautious about taking Apple Daily at its word, had heard that “Rogue One” had also been pursuing Chinese talent. The site further states that the tabloid’s spoiler of Han Solo appearing in “Star Wars Episode 8” ends rumors that the character will disappear or die in “The Force Awakens“. But his return to “Star Wars: Episode VIII” will definitely be what Starwars7news called as a “game changer”. We’ll have to wait and see what happens as the Star Wars universe continues to expand. According to Starwars7news, back in January a trio of Indonesian martial arts experts were also cast in J.J.
The internet is abuzz with anticipation for the new sequel trilogy in the “Star Wars franchise”. While Donnie Yens lightsaber license may not yet carry an official stamp, the actor readies a slew of other big projects such as the follow-up film to one of the most successful mystical kung fu films of all time in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, which hits cinemas on August 28.
