Hope Solo booed over Zika comments in USWNT win
After not playing during 2011 World Cup Qualifying due to shoulder issues, Solo helped carry the U.S.to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final, winning the Golden Glove award as the tournament’s best goalkeeper and the Bronze Ball as the third-most outstanding player. The men aren’t even at the games because they didn’t qualify, because they suck, so it’s total BS they get paid more in the first place. I like a loud stadium. “But it really doesn’t mean anything to me”.
So they booed Solo mercilessly on Wednesday, and repeatedly chanted “Zika! I’m okay with that”, she said.
“I do not usually understand what happens around the stadium, because I am very focused on the game”, she said. “They’ll probably go for the whole tournament”. She took her thoughts to her website where she wrote, “We have a crisis on our hands and the players of the NWSL want to see more from our commissioner and our league”. She has emerged as a target for the Brazilian fans, and that kind of thing isn’t shaken easily. And take your filthy rich arrogance with you.
“I’m glad the fans had fun”, Solo said. The image shows her wearing a scarf around her mouth and nose, as well as a layer of net, while holding a giant-sized bottle of insect repellent. “Get your own! #zikaproof #RoadToRio”.
First, of course, a little background for those in need of a refresher, or for those unaware of what has been going on with Solo over the past two years.
Solo made five saves.
Though she didn’t realize what the fans were chanting during the match, she seemed unfazed by it when the game came to an end. She went so far as to suggest she might skip the Olympics this summer. She also scored in the opener against New Zealand. She plays with that same steely edge.
Because Solo is a actually a big loser.
U.S is trying to win its fifth gold medal since women’s soccer became an Olympic sport, Tobin Heath said, “That was the best way we could have started”. She says she was defending herself and the charges were dismissed but prosecutors brought those charges back in appeal and she will face a trial in January.
“I found a lot of success in the inches of the game”. Isn’t it? Well, kinda.
