Hornets sign Berghuis (From Kingston Guardian)
Watford have confirmed the signing of highly-rated AZ Alkmaar winger Steven Berghuis for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £4.2m.
Berghuis, who can also play on the wing, scored 11 goals in 22 league appearances last season as AZ finished third in the Eredivisie.
The 23-year-old winger has completed his move to the Hornets, becoming the newly promoted side’s 10th signing of a busy summer.
He joins Jose Manuel Jurado, Miguel Britos, Sebastian Prodl, Giedrius Arlauskis, Matej Vydra, Jose Holebas, Etienne Capoue, Valon Behrami and Allan Nyom in moving to Vicarage Road.
‘I’m very excited to be here, ‘ Dutchman Berghuis told Hornets Player. “There were long discussions about whether I would come and I’m looking forward to playing here”. I’m an emotional person and just want to go to a club and I feel comfortable there.
Watford secured promotion to the Premier League courtesy of a second place finish in the Championship last season and are determined not to drop back into the second tier at the first time of asking.
