Hornets sign free agent point guard Jeremy Lin
The point guard will be signing a two-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets, his fifth National Basketball Association team in six seasons, worth $4.3 million with the team’s biannual exception, according to reports by ESPN. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“He is a talented player who we feel can make significant contributions to our basketball team”, Hornets General Manager Rich Cho said in a statement.
The Taiwanese-American’s fans were also allowed to participate in the discussion by asking questions, which one young woman used as an opportunity to inquire about Lin’s expectations for marriage and when his nuptials might take place.
“I wanted to be on a team where I would be able to play freely and truly play the game I love with joy again”, he said in the post. Walker shoots 39.5 percent overall and 31.8 percent on 3s.
In a somewhat sick twist, the Mavericks had been gunning for Lin as an upgrade to their point-guard situation to go along with their core that featured Jordan.
“My journey has never looked the way I (or anyone else) thought it would, but God has always worked things out for my good and I am confident that he will continue to do so”, he wrote.
Aside from the Mavericks and the Lakers, the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers expressed interest in Lin.
After his memorable season with the Knicks, the Rockets signed him to a three-year, $25 million contract.
Over his career, Lin has shot 34.9 percent from 3-point range, 79.9% from the free throw line, averaged 4.8 assists per game and has averaged just under 27 minutes per game in his five years in the National Basketball Association. He then joined the Houston Rockets in 2012-13 and eventually got traded to the Lakers following the 2013-14 season. “He’s going to bring some energy to our backcourt and our second unit”.
One-third of Charlotte’s roster has already changed from last season.
