Host Steve Harvey Crowns Wrong Miss Universe
As the beaming, newly crowned queen blew kisses to her fans, Harvey was forced to admit he had goofed.
“I have to apologize”, Harvey said. “I felt calm when I was called first runner-up because I felt it was fate”.
Trump sued and eventually settled with NBC and bought the network’s stake in Miss Universe. Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was named Miss Universe.
‘I don’t want to take away from this wonderful night and pageant.
“This is exactly what’s on the card”, Harvey said, holding it up, clearly distraught. “This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful”.
Harvey is quoted as saying, “Nobody feels worse about this than me”.
Social media however responded with bewilderment and brutal mockery.
“For us you’ll always be our Miss Universe”, he wrote to Gutierrez.

It was the first Miss Universe title won by a contestant from the Philippines for more than 40 years.
The Miss Universe Facebook page shared videos of the backstage reactions of both Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines.
Harvey claimed that he mistakenly read from a cue card. As reported on The Telegraph, the Miss Universe organization also asked an apology via Twitter. “We witnessed that tonight when the wrong victor was initially announced”, the statement said.

The contestant from the Philippines was “confused” when she heard she was the actual victor after fellow contestant Ariadna Gutierrez was accidentally crowned Miss Universe during the live broadcast.
