Host Steve Harvey Crowns Wrong Miss Universe Winner
Particularly, Miss Germany, who placed unranked, but still went on a rant about the moment Steve Harvey announced the wrong victor of the pageant, throwing major shade at Miss Philippines while she was at it. Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo, Miss Universe Philippines 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, their families and fans.
Miss Colombia was wrongly named Miss Universe in a dramatic mix-up in front of a global television audience of millions on Sunday, before the rightful victor Miss Philippines was finally handed the glittering crown.
Colombia’s president said Monday he was shocked when Miss Colombia won and then immediately lost the Miss Universe crown, and said as far as he was concerned she remained the victor. “I’m so sorry to say that”.
The real Miss Universe – Wurtzbach – also spoke after what she called “a very non-traditional crowning”. The ceremony host, Steve Harvey, fixed his mistake the instant he relaised there had been a botch-up.
“I had to ask my [manager] many times like, ‘Did I really win?”
“Everything happens for a reason”, the 21-year-old said via a video posted to the Miss Universe Twitter feed after the awkward finale. However, the Missosology Facebook page cited a subsequent statement from her that suggests she did not mean to slam Miss Philippines. “Thank you all, thank you for voting for me”.
They waited 42 years, and when the prestigious title of the Miss Universe finally came their way, it wasn’t without drama.
“It’s very 2015”, she said.
Harvey first tweeted, “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia”.
