Hotels, businesses damaged in uptown during last night’s protests
North Carolina’s governor declared a state of emergency in the city.
But groups of protesters kept marching around downtown, followed by police in riot gear who continued to fire tear gas at them.
The National Guard was sent in to assist police.
The protesters stopped for about 15 minutes to chant and block an intersection near Bank of America’s headquarters.
“I Love the 90’s” show at Time Warner Cable Arena has been canceled for Friday, September 23 and will be rescheduled for Sunday, December 4, at 7 p.m. – “The safety of our guests and employees has always been the top priority for our organization”, aid Hornets Sports and Entertainment President & CCO Fred Whitfield.
The crowd includes curious onlookers who emerged from hotels and office buildings to take pictures.
Those protests, including violence and vandalism on Wednesday, prompted many major employers in uptown to tell their staffs to stay home Thursday.
The protests started Tuesday after police said they had been searching for someone who had an outstanding warrant at The Village at College Downs complex on Old Concord Road when they saw Scott leave his vehicle holding a gun.
A man was shot in uptown during Wednesday night’s protests, according to police.
Police spokesman Keith Trietley says in a news release that 26-year-old Justin Carr died Thursday at the hospital.
The City of Charlotte said on Twitter that one person was shot and left on life support.
