House leadership fight will strengthen GOP caucus, local congressmen say
The pressure is on Congressman Paul Ryan to run for House speaker.
But members of the Freedom Caucus, who helped push out Boehner and derail McCarthy, they aren’t jumping the Ryan bandwagon at this point. Paul has a driving passion to get America back on a path of growth and opportunity.
McCarthy told reporters Friday morning that Ryan is “looking” at the speaker position but that “it has to be his decision”.
Automaker says it told EPA about a “software feature” in its 2016 clean diesel models.
“But honestly, the more effective the House is by improving the process the more influential the speaker will become outside of the Capitol and when bringing your message to the White House, to the media or to the American public”.
But the loudest rumblings today involved the party’s 2012 vice presidential nominee, who now chairs the Ways and Means Committee.
Finding a replacement for House Speaker John Boehner has consumed Republicans as Congress faces a series of pressing decisions, from raising the government borrowing authority to funding federal agencies through September.
With rumors suggesting that the party is in complete chaos now – a few adult politicians even reportedly spent yesterday’s meeting crying in the cloakroom – Boehner has agreed to stay on “until the House votes to elect a new speaker”, but when that will happen is a mystery.
“I think that when Mitt Romney chose him last time, it was a tough choice because he’s been so anti-Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, in a sense”.
“Other may be able to step up to the plate and forge that consensus, but we already know Paul has already forged it”, Johnson said.
“The fact is, he’s a good guy, but whatever he was as a freshman, when he was a fighter on our committee, when he was trying to hold government accountable, he took a break from that”, Issa said.
My takeaway: Don’t blame the Republicans, don’t blame the Tea Party, and don’t blame John Boehner. But there are definitely still concerns about whether Ryan has the right personality to be Speaker. “Even though Republicans are in charge of the Senate, we still need a half-dozen votes to move legislation”, referring to the six Democratic votes needed to reach 60.
Garrett, like other members of the Freedom Caucus, said he supported Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) for House speaker.
But despite the many entreaties, the House adjourned for a weeklong recess Friday, and Ryan left his suitors wanting, returning to his family and advisers in Janesville, Wis., to discuss his future, and, he said, to watch the Green Bay Packers game Sunday. She also mentioned Westmoreland and Tom Graves of Ranger as potential speaker candidates who could represent the Peach State – and the county – well. “The House is functioning very much as it’s always functioned”.
Not on this list is the far-fetched idea of a “coalition” speaker.
