‘House of Horrors’ mother grins as couple banned from contacting children
The mother of the family, Louise, was even seen smiling when she was talking to her attorney Jeff Moore.
On the surface, the family seemed happy.
Officials said the parents would buy food for themselves but prohibit the children from having any, with the exception of the 2-year-old, who was getting enough to eat.
Although the children of David Turpin, 56, and Louise Turpin, 49, endured living in terrible conditions together, they will now recover from it apart. “She went to Huntsville, Alabama, David dropped her off”, she said.
The family moved a few miles north, to Perris, in 2014.
After last week’s initial appearance before a judge, David and Louise Turpin are expected back in court Wednesday to face a restraining order.
David Turpin’s family also commented on the situation.
The teen who saved her 12 siblings from a California house of horrors reportedly jumped out a window and called 911 with just days to spare before a cross-country move. David Turpin is listed in a state Department of Education directory as the principal of Sandcastle Day School, a private K-12 school that has the same address as the couple’s home. Louise Turpin introduced her to the children and said one of the boys was in his mid-20s. The allegations range from keeping them in chains to starving them to forbidding showers for a year.
David Macher, a legal counselor speaking to David Turpin, disclosed to ABC News: “What we might want general society to know is that our customers are attempted to be pure, and that is a critical assumption”, including, “We will give a lively barrier”. “We’re connected as people and to know that others have suffered, to know that this has gone on, folks are literally just compelled to be a part of a solution”, said Erin Phillips, foundation executive director at Riverside University Health System.
The children told prosecutors that they were initially tied up with ropes as a form of punishment – sometimes lasting weeks or months at a time – with one instance of one sibling being hogtied.
Dr Turpin has temporarily stepped down from his role as the president of Ohio’s Valor Christian College as he deals with “revelations about estranged family members”, he said in a statement.
“Well, David’s so tall and lanky”, Teresa Robinette remembers her sister saying. Hestrin said at a news conference that the siblings were able to write in journals all the time, which will provide “strong evidence of what occurred in that home”.
Hestrin said the children had not been to the doctor in years, many of them had never been to a dentist, and some had no idea what a police officer was. A 12-year-old victim weighed the same as an average 7-year-old.
One neighbour likened them to vampires, saying they appeared “very pale-skinned, nearly like they’d never seen the sun”.
She said both she and her sister were sexually abused as children. “There’s no way around that”.
