Houston Rockets Send Ty Lawson To Milwaukee Bucks For OJ
The Rockets interior duo of Howard and Capela have a distinct advantage in the paint. They are now sporting a 7-11 win-loss record, far from their expectations going into the season. J.B. Bickerstaff said that he’s doing one-on-one drills and he is “salivating” for the day when he can get back into the lineup. They got a lot of guards.
When the Houston Rockets acquired Lawson from the Nuggets this offseason, there was nothing but championship aspirations for Clutch City.
The NBA trade rumors heat up as the trade season is about to begin.
One of the main perks with Lawson is that his 2016-17 salary, valued at $13.21 million, is fully non-guaranteed.
If the Houston Rockets are going to turn things around in arguably the NBA’s toughest division, they’re going to have to start winning some games against some of the Southwest’s own. This could make Lawson an enticing buy-low and high-upside acquisition for teams in need of a ball-dominant point guard.
This has been the Rockets biggest problem with Lawson this season. At this point getting anything in return for Lawson at all, and not having to eat the entirety of the $12.4 million of his contract for this season, has to have some serious allure for the Rockets and general manager Daryl Morey.
There doesn’t appear to be any team that is close to a trade for Lawson at the moment but you would think he would garner some sort of interest.
The team seems to be working on ways to strengthen their side and it is certain that Ty Lawson may be the player who would be traded. Yes Lawson’s off court troubles are well documented, but this is the type of player a rebuilding team could take a chance on. The Pelicans are 7th in PACE factor, averaging 100.2 possessions per game. Houston will send Lawson, Dekker and Jones for Bagdonovic, Jack, and T-Rob. Ryan Anderson has shot 27 percent over the Pelicans last three, and both he and Anthony Davis expect it to take time for this team to re-integrate its recently healed talents. His play this year has been poor, but he’s also been asked to play a role he’s thoroughly unfamiliar with. Harden had two points in the first, missed five of six shots and didn’t get to the free-throw line.
A better fit might be exactly the cure for what ails him. The Pelicans had to file hardship waivers with the league because they couldn’t field a healthy team. On the other hand, the Rockets have been a massive disappointment on all levels.
The Nets are the worst 3-point shooting team in the National Basketball Association, and as a result they shoot the fewest 3-pointers per game in the league. Lawson could provide the Bucks with a needed offensive boost.
