Houston Texans Preseason: 3 Takeaways vs Patriots

Brady found running back Rex Burkhead in the open field with Burkhead beating rookie linebacker Zach Cunningham for a 22-yard touchdown pass. There is no hesitation in his game and he’s going to be a fine addition to Brady’s arsenal, potentially as the Patriots starting running back.

“Rex has missed very little time”, Belichick told NESN.

“I think that’s what makes a good offense – having a lot of versatility”, Brady said. He played well, breaking up 2 passes and stopping 3 more. O’Shaughnessy is vying for his own versatile role behind Gronkowksi. “I got it and tried to get to the end zone as fast as possible”.

“I though Cyrus did a good job in the return game, both in punts and kickoffs”, Belichick said.

And it’ll be interesting to see what sort of workload he takes on with them during the regular season.

The defense didn’t have a particularly great start, highlighted by some uncharacteristic struggles from Malcolm Butler. Patrick Chung and Stephon Gilmore each had pass deflections. The big guy proved as much on Saturday. If they double someone, everyone else is singled across the board, so you’ve just got to be careful who you double. “But like all players in the league, we followed him out of college and then every year in the league”. Superstar quarterback Tom Brady is anticipated to make his preseason debut this year along with numerous other starters for the New England including Rob Gronkowski and among others. Anybody can do that. That being said they knew the Patriot’s play style in and out. But, yeah, that opportunity is there for everybody.
