Houston Texans Quarterback TJ Yates Tears Out For Season
Weeden came in in relief of TJ Yates, and led the Texans to a 16-10 victory over the Colts.
Weeden finished 11 of 18 with 105 yards, but found Strong on the critical screen play on the right side. At 6-8, the Colts are one game behind the Houston Texans in the AFC South and would be eliminated with one more loss. If the Texans and Colts finish tied at 8-8, the applicable tiebreaker – strength of victory – would seem to favor Houston. The Texans’ final two games are against the 3-11 Tennessee Titans and 5-9 Jacksonville Jaguars, two teams that they’ve already beaten this season.
“We kinda thought to win this game, no one had to do anything super hero”, said Hasselbeck. He was close to breaking it free several times today and even when taking a few chances he was able to make an impact in a game where they needed any kind of help to get going. Brian Hoyer has been out since week 14 because he suffered his second concussion within a month-long time span. The good news is that his symptoms are subsiding and he has a reasonable shot at playing this coming Sunday against the Titans. “We’ve got to take care of what we can do and we’ve just got to win”. He was in a position where he stepped in for Luck and got banged up. “He just gets back up”.
The only other alternative would be 3rd-string quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, so the Colts will likely continue to stick with Hasselbeck and hope that he can regain his earlier season form. After the game, the worst fears were realized – Yates has a torn ACL, and his season is over.
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt (99) is blocked by Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore (23) in the second half at Lucas Oil Stadium.
It’s painfully obvious the Colts will trot Hasselbeck out there, assuming he can regain the ability to trot, despite a steep decline in performance linked directly the battering his 40-year-old body has taken.
Matt Hasselbeck, who again replaced the injured Andrew Luck, was 17 of 30 for 147 yards with one touchdown and one interception – not quite enough on an underwhelming day for the Colts (6-8). They converted just 4-of-13 third downs, 1-of-6 after halftime.
Luck has been ruled out for the Colts’ Week 16 matchup with the Dolphins.
“Yeah, it’s been a odd year”, Weeden said, via the Houston Chronicle.
Offensive line: The return of the Colts’ complete starting offensive line combination didn’t yield the expected results.
As with the rest of the offense, the Colts wide receivers were largely impacted by the fact that Matt Hasselbeck didn’t look like he was even 50 percent for most of the game, but there is still no excuse for how anonymous the receivers felt.
