Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller departs with shoulder injury
A sloppy first half was only a precursor of what was to come in the second at Lambeau Field Sunday.
RB Christine Michael: Still the leading rusher this season for the Seahawks with 469 yards on 117 carries, Michael saw his most action yet as a Packer on Sunday when he had nine carries for 19 yards against Houston.
“Jor-dy, Jor-dy, Jor-dy”, the majority of the 77,867 in attendance chanted in the fourth quarter.
There have been plenty of games this season when the play of quarterback Brock Osweiler was a major negative for the Texans, but he turned in one of his better games of the year in Green Bay on Sunday. But the Packers were unable to capitalize because Rodgers fumbled a snap on third-and-1 from the Texans 2. Hopkins finished with two catches for 55 yards on seven targets.
Nelson was wide open on the play because cornerback Charles James slipped on the snowy Lambeau Field turf. “I don’t know if he tripped over his feet or my feet or what”, said Nelson, who passed Boyd Dowler on Sunday in team annals for No. 5 all-time in receiving yards (6,981).
“I was in my deep third coverage and I couldn’t see Aaron Rodgers because he was scrambling around”, strong safety Corey Moore said. The temperature was 32 degrees.
The Texans got burned in the snow several other times. It was a decent effort in the snow and kept Houston in the game at the end. “Keeping your cleats clean and everything”, said Nelson. “He’s our leader. He’s our guy that we follow”.
The last quarter was the most intense quarter of all. That’s what we talked about before we started. Our last few drives were back on the 2 and the 10 or 11, so for us to put together two drives of over 180 yards of offense was pretty special. He scored on a two-yard plunge to cap the scoring for Green Bay and the win. Shane Lechler did punt the ball well, putting two of his five inside the 20. “Just really my focus is getting healthy. It just wasn’t enough”, head coach Bill O’Brien said. That was before the chants for Nelson.
Rodgers didn’t move out of the pocket often, but he did on his first touchdown pass of the day, a 9-yarder to Randall Cobb midway through the second quarter.
“I know against a lot of receivers, they don’t like to be touched in and out of their routes”, Gunter said, “so I kind of just want to aggravate them a little bit”.
It’s unclear if he’ll be able to return this week after taking a beating in his first year playing defensive end with J.J. Watt out for the season after back surgery.
Their general responses were the same, too: We think about interceptions. Seeing that the plays are there and he simply isn’t making them doesn’t mean the offense is close.
