Hoverboards banned from campus
Another safety concern Edinboro administrators say is students falling.
KSU’s ban also applies to facilities such as the university’s sports and entertainment park and Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in December said it is investigating the fire risk. He estimates that only a handful of hoverboards are present on campus, and United States dollars has had no reported incidents of overheating or fires.
N.C. State said hoverboards can no longer be brought on campus and that students can put them in temporary storage if they wish.
SIU-C’s spring semester begins on January 19. “I’m going to charge something and just leave and let it go, and that’s where we become really uncomfortable with it”, said Nathan Thomas, vice president for student affairs. “So, we had to act quicker on those, because we don’t want them stored there and have a fire because of overcharging”.
Logsdon said while such gadgets are allowed on sidewalks, the university is keeping a close eye on safety to see if any changes need to be made. There have been no reports of hoverboards catching fire at the university.
Students are asked to not bring them to campus. This restriction is due to recent concerns by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the potential impact these devices may have on campus safety.
Even before the fire hazard was known, UI officials had already warned Sierra and his friends to stop riding the hoverboards indoors, he said.
Temple is following along with other colleges across the country who have banned the device.
The ban extends to residence halls, academic and administrative buildings and Greek housing, effective immediately.
