How Does Richard Die on Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life?
Warning: This story has spoilers from the show’s four-part revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Although almost every character’s sexuality was addressed at some point throughout her six seasons as the mastermind of The CW series, Michel’s (Yanic Truesdale) – Lorelai Gilmore’s (Lauren Graham) right hand man at the Dragonfly Inn – largely remained a mystery, though a majority of viewers have come to assume that he is gay.
Gilmore Girls fans have been waiting for years to hear Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel utter the series’ now-infamous Final Four Words.
So what changes have been taking place?
“The footage they have in the opening sequence where [Lorelai and Rory] are on the porch in one scene and Rory lays her head down on Lorelai’s shoulder, that really captures the song”, Louise said. Now 32, the same age as Lorelai when the series began in 2000, Rory’s dream has come true and she’s a published journalist, with The New Yorker no less.
This can’t be the last time we see Rory and Lorelai, can it? Other fans are calling for another season of the show so that they can get actual closure. Although Kelly Bishop, Alexis Bledel, and Lauren Graham now do not have post-Gilmore Girls projects, it won’t be long before they’re booked again.
Edward Herrmann died on December 31, 2014, but his beloved presence is felt throughout the four episodes of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino always said that she planned to end the show with four particular words, but didn’t get to follow through on her intial plan, as she left ahead of it seventh and final season in 2007. Then Rory drops the bomb, “I’m pregnant”.
“I just don’t understand it”. Emily stands Lorelai up for a session, and Lorelai opens up to their therapist about her father’s death. However, reruns that aired on ABC Family paired with new fans who discovered the show on streaming have turned the sweet, fast-talking series about family and love into a bit of a phenomenon.
The big question remains: will the Gilmore Girls revival be better than the original? “And I think it’s a little uncomfortable for [Rory] even though she’s kind of putting on a courageous face that she’s fine with it. I think he wants to be a grandpa”. “And Jami Rudofsky, one of the casting directors, pitched her the idea: what if we just bring that guy back and have him pop up again in a different job?”
