With Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) launch of Windows 10 for PC well and truly out of the way, the company has shifted its focus onto its Windows 10 Mobile platform. Despite the long lead time between releases, we don’t expect Microsoft’s next tablet will be all too different from the series’ last iteration.
“We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices”, reads the teaser to an invitation sent to reporters to attend an event in New York City.
A key Microsoft pitch concerning its new operating system is that it functions across screen sizes, using a single code base to work on every user device. A Skylake processor is, at this point, an inevitability, and the basic form factor isn’t going to change-Microsoft has said that Surface Pro 3 accessories will remain compatible with future devices-but beyond that, it’s an unknown.
Rumors about Microsoft’s next-generation flagship smartphones have been flying high and low for a good while now, and it seems they’re getting closer to launch.
What hardware will we see? The Surface Pro 3 was a runaway success and has helped the tablet line to rake in profits to the company. It’s Microsoft Store website offers $150 or more in savings on Surface Pro 3s right now.
Microsoft is playing catch-up with browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox in many respects, most notably support for extensions – and, of course, in terms of their userbase. The lock screen may exhibit issues, and there are also a range of problems with the Narrator feature. The new version of the O/S, which is still very much in beta, had been running on my Lumia 1020 for the last month and had become increasingly unstable.
