How Facebook’s new Donate Now button will help nonprofits
Social media giant Facebook has extended the option for Not for Profits across Australia and worldwide to add a “Donate Now” call-to-action to their page posts and link ads.
Facebook for Business on Monday announced the rollout of a new call-to-action button for non-profit organisations, called Donate Now.
“Every day, people use Facebook to raise awareness and support for causes they care about and to motivate others to do the same”, a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable.
On clicking the Donate Now button, the donor will be notified with an important statement from Facebook saying they are not endorsed or affiliated to the particular non-profit organization.
Limiting the option to non-profit organizations was done because the potential for misuse is very great, admins already having a hard time managing the actions of millions of current Facebook pages.
Without the embedded payment processes, the button is really just a call-to-action link, which is valuable to these organizations’ advertisements I’m sure.
The first instance of Facebook supporting a donation campaign was during the Nepal quake disaster earlier this year when the company showed a notification at the top of its users’ timeline. It should appear on the charity’s Facebook Page and as you can see in the screenshot, it will also appear in sponsored posts so that you can go ahead and donate easily.
