How Ghanaians reacted after Dede Ayew’s second EPL goal — Twitter fans
Now, it’s easy to look at these too games and say that the weak link is Newcastle’s defense, Janmaat and Coloccini have been particularly poor, but from what I’ve seen where Newcastle really need to strengthen is up front.
Newcastle United’s naive performance in their 2-0 loss to Swansea City highlighted a hidden ignorance unearthed by their muddled point against Southampton last weekend.
Newcastle rarely threatened and Steve McClaren’s decision to play without a recognised striker for much of the second period suggested damage limitation was a bigger priority than attempting to reel in the dominant hosts.
Swansea City may have won praise for getting a more direct edge to their game – but the old “Swanselona” style is still alive and well at the Liberty Stadium. Daryl Janmaat is a great player, but the red card was one that could have been avoided.
“We’ve only been here a short time”, said McClaren.
Andre Ayew powered home a header seven minutes into the second half to condemn Newcastle to their first defeat of the season – and their seventh consecutive away defeat in the Premier League.
Janmaat was booked after clattering into Jefferson Montero twice and he went off in the 41st when he pulled the Ecuadorian back to stop him launching an attack. “From then on it’s very hard”. “I think we did ourselves justice today”, he said.
With Sissoko forced off at half-time through injury and some slightly surprising substitutions, with Aarons replacing Cisse to play on his own up front.
“There are no positives for us to take”. “Just don’t do it. For example, Diego Costa at Chelsea…it’s the same”.
A trip to Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime is next up for McClaren’s squad.
But after advertising in the summer for a personal chef, you knew Shelvey had put improving his form at the top of the menu.
Taylor revealed: “Daryl was absolutely devastated”.
“It’s kind of a waste of a game when we need to learn about the players and how we go about things”. He has apologised and like anyone who gets sent off, they always hold their hands up.
“We started well, got a fantastic goal”.
Taylor was joined on the pitch late on by new signing Aleksandar Mitrovic, who took just 90 seconds to land himself in the referee’s notebook – for the second week running.
In between the goals, Swansea could have had a few more, whilst the best Newcastle could muster was an effort from Obertan when he cut in from the left – Fabianski saving well to his right.
