How Much Bending and Scratching Can the iPhone 7 Take?
But now that it’s available to the public, the exciting part of getting a new gadget can finally begin: figuring out how to break it.
Over on YouTube, JerryRigEverything put a matte black iPhone 7 to the test, including burning and scratching the screen, bending the body, and scratching the camera lens.
Scratching the home button, which Apple says is made of sapphire crystal cover, threw up some surprises.
But when JerryRigEverything scratched the camera with a mineral test pick at a level of six, the lens was visibly scratched.
In another video (below), Youtuber JerryRigEverything tests out the casing and screen of the iPhone 7, seeing how it holds up against scratching and fire.
In the end, this video is worth a look if you want to see what the iPhone 7 is capable of, but make sure you don’t try this at home when your model arrives.
And it’s the scratch test that raises a durability concern.
The test revealed that iPhone 7 can indeed take a beating; however, it’s no better than other competitors in the market.
In terms of scratch resistance, the iPhone 7 reaches level 6, which is strong enough to withstand the typical damage caused by keys and coins that might be in your pocket. However, this too being sapphire is questionable as it scratched deeply at Level 6. Even the camera lens and quad LED lights were put to the test. That said, we think few people will attack their shiny new iPhone 7 with a razor blade.
Those wondering if the iPhone 7 will be safe from bendgate, which plagued the iPhone 6, you can breathe easy as the latest Apple handset “does not appear to be flexible”, declares the test. We wonder how the Jet Black variant, which Apple cautions scratches easily, would have fared!
