The Alphabet-owned unit has been working on incorporating the ability for its voice-based search app to be able to detect natural voice and offer more appropriate search results. Evidently the company secretly stores its users’ searches from its voice-activated assistant Google’s Voice Search, OK Google and search feature Google Now.

Before the hysteria gets out of control, Google stores voice searches on its servers in an effort to improve its technology and ultimately provide a better experience for users. Once deleted, your voice recordings will no longer be available either to you or Google. Do remeber, turning off the voice and audio authority doesnt stop Google from recording your voice.

Only you can see this page – well, you and Google’s algorithms – and using the buttons on the top toolbar you can jump to a specific date or look for a particular query.

Selecting the Delete options on the other hand enables you to delete voice and audio activity for the current day, yesterday, or an advanced time period (last four weeks or all time). (You can manage activity for other things like search on YouTube, on the Web and more.) Once you’re in your voice and audio activity, you can easily delete recordings in bulk, or you can do so individually.

Since Google admits that it may record audio activity even if you have paused the feature, the only option to block the company from doing so is to not use voice controls or commands. The Guardian’s Alex Hern recently discovered how to access his entire archive of voice recordings from his Google Now sessions and he felt a little unnerved to hear himself ask questions at times when he wasn’t exactly sober.
