How To Remove Spam Invitations From iCloud Calendar

Customers who use Apple’s iCloud on a daily basis probably noticed that spam invites coming to their account saw a massive surge during the last couple of weeks.

Again, the downside of this option is that you won’t see any automatic pop-ups of good calendar invites either; you’re stuck going to email like an animal. But blocking them entirely only requires a single change to iCloud settings.

Click the gear in the bottom left and choose Preferences.

Make sure Email to “your address” is selected and not In-app notifications. Change how you receive notifications from “in-app” to “email”.

You’ve probably wondered about what you could have done to get these notifications, and more importantly, how to turn iCalender notifications off. If you use this method, you will not receive invites in your inbox, either. The problem derives from how Apple stores calendar events in its iCloud cloud storage.

That should rid you of the unwanted spam event, leaving spammers none the wiser.

If you decline the spam invitations, your response lets the spammer know that you’re alive and checking this account – which means you’ll nearly certainly get more spam in the near future. If you decline an invitation, the sender is automatically notified. Here, you should see your default calendar, tap into that menu and select instead the one you just created. These then show up as calendar notifications that allow you to quickly add the event to your calendar. iCal can scan email to detect calendar invitations, looking for things like locations and times that suggest the message refers to a specific event. Calendar asks if you want to delete it or merge it with another calendar.

Wherever you go, it seems as though you will bump into someone who has been affected by this form of spam.

In Calendar on your Mac, create a new calendar by choosing File New Calendar On My Mac.

Users are prompted to accept or decline the invitation from inside the calendar app, bypassing the need to search out invites within your inbox.

Drag the spam events to the new Untitled calendar in Calendar’s sidebar.

To do this, you’ll need to log into your iCloud account from a browser. If that’s the case, simply open the Settings app on your iPhone or System Preferences on your Mac. Toggle off the button next to Calendars. This will mean you won’t sync to iCloud from your desktop, but you also won’t be hit with desktop notifications about cheap Louis Vuitton bags.
