How to Watch Google I/O 2018 Live Stream
Google had introduced the Google Assistant to the platform with the release of Android 2.0. Today, just ahead of I/O 2018 next week, Google is announcing a number of updates to make Google Assistant more full featured.
The arms race between Google Assistant and Alexa seems to be entering a new phase, as both add new features and create incentives for developers to choose them over a competitor. Now, it will be able to read out answers instead, much as the Google Home smart speaker can.
Fox and Kapor said the investment scheme is an extension of its Google Assistant and Actions development schemes, which are helping people “get things done in new ways we couldn’t have predicted just a few years ago”. So if you were to enquire about the weather, your smartwatch might follow up with a suggestions such as the option to see the tomorrow’s weather, or the extended forecast. It is another of the many featured Actions that has been added to the Google Wear OS.
Currently, the Google I/O schedule has over 24 sessions for Google Assistant. Customers have already connected tens of millions of smart home products to Alexa. Google is expected to release the updated design guidelines for developers to update their apps by the time the final build is released to the public. When users ask their Wear OS device a question, relevant follow-up questions will automatically appear. If you happen to be one of those using a Wear OS device, what do you think about these changes?
It’s clear that Google wants Assistant to continue to improve and expand its capabilities, which is why the company is also investing in startups to make it happen faster.
The strategy, announced Wednesday, aims to support startups with investment funds, guidance from Google staff, and marketing support through Google’s existing channels. One of the major concerns that Google Wear OS users have is the battery life.
