How Will Obama’s Gun Control Measures Affect The Tri-State Area?

Republicans will no doubt tear this reasonable measure to pieces, but before this issue gets talked to death, may we just say thank you, Mr. President; it’s about time.

The president also called for improvements in gun safety technology, along with allocating $500-million to mental health programs.

Even before the announcement, many gun advocates threatened to challenge the provisions in court and many Republicans, particularly those on the campaign trail, blasted the move.

Now in Pennsylvania, private sellers do not need to record the sale of a rifle or long gun or conduct a background check on the buyer.

Many of these gun shop owners say they also make their products available to online customers. Under the Executive orders, they will now face criminal prosecutions. “So that might create more F.F.L.’s out there which is fine”.

Bullock, an activist for the Change Agent Consortium, said that he likes the fact that President Obama is leading the way on gun reform. “They send it to another F.F.L. like us. They go to that business and they do the background check”.

“Guns are in the hands of bad people, bad people have ignored the laws since the beginning of this country”, said Jim Lamb, a gun supporter. To that end, the government will consider other factors, including how many guns a person sells, how frequently, and whether those guns are sold for a profit. “He doesn’t want to be checked or balanced”, said Craig Lebeau of Sakonnet River Outfitters in Tiverton. “A lot of the stuff that is outlined there, we’ve had in place for many years”.
