How Would We Cope Without Our Smartphones?
When Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, it really was the cutting edge of technology. It did not have video recording, GPS or third-party apps but was still the start of the smartphone revolution. Microsoft had introduced a Windows smartphone 5 years before, but it was never as successful and did not have the impact of Apple’s product.
How Smartphones Progressed
It did not take long for Apple to add more features, but the next big step was the opening of the App Store, where you can purchase other people’s apps. By the time they got to the iPhone 7, these small hand-held computers were sleeker and more modern looking. On the 10th anniversary of the first one, they launched the iPhone 8 which is so advanced compared to the very first iPhone it is almost unbelievable.
Of course, Apple is not the only one to make smartphones, and while they have been updating their range, so have the likes of Samsung and all the other big manufacturers. Some say that there is nothing to choose between them anymore, and it is really down to which operating system you prefer that guides your choice of purchase.
Being More Prepared
Youngsters of today seem to have digital devices from a very early age, and they wonder how we managed without them. How did we contact our friends once we had left school for the day? What if we wanted to go out on a weekend? How did we find out what was on at the local cinema? And so the list goes one. There are so many things they use digital devices for that they take them for granted and cannot imagine life without them.
The secret was to be prepared. Arrangements were made with friends before parting and finding out what was on locally would be advertised in the local newspapers. Either that or you went to the outside of the cinema where the features would be displayed. Smartphones have affected so many parts of our lives that preparation used to be necessary, and there are still some things where it is best not to wait until the last minute. The site Mom With Prep has some great tips and information on various things that it can be useful to be prepared for.
Where Do Smartphones Go from Here?
It is hard to imagine what other features could be useful on our smartphones, but as technology continues to develop, there is no doubt phones will as well. Things like face recognition will mean that only you are able to use your phone and that will make them a far less attractive proposition for thieves. The makers need to work on things like battery life, as they can run out very quickly, but for now we just have to deal with that. They will probably come up with a self-charging battery at some point, or one that is solar powered. There are still so many options available to the various companies, and it is just a matter of time before they are able to make them fit into our small hand-held computers.
