How would you feel if Tom Coughlin landed the Eagles’ job?
So far, the Eagles have confirmed interviews with their running backs coach Duce Staley and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, and Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, along with Coughlin, who was the Giants’ head coach for the last 12 seasons, leading them to two Super Bowl victories. Former Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase interviewed with the team but ended up being hired by the Miami Dolphins as their next head coach.
Pederson’s interview came one day after Kansas City ended a 22-year drought without a playoff win in a 30-0 romp in Houston.
Pederson said the last he heard was the Eagles are now in the process of going through the interviewed candidates and will make a decision.
Pederson arrived in Kansas City as the offensive coordinator primarily by title, since Reid prefers to call his own plays.
So now the trilogy of Lurie, team president Dom Smolenski and whatever title Howie Roseman has today will decide on who replaces Kelly.
Like Reid, Pederson learned from Super Bowl Championship coach Mike Holmgren in Green Bay and he’s spent over a decade learning from Andy.
The smart, safe move is former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, despite being 69 going on to 70.
The Eagles are seeking a replacement for Chip Kelly, who was sacked with one week remaining in the season. Lurie has gone previously for more offensive minded head coaches but McDermott could be what Philadelphia needs.
Pederson was identified as a candidate shortly after the Eagles ended their regular season and is already familiar to many in the organization after and spending four years as an assistant when Andy Reid was the head coach. Reid, who oversaw a trade with the 49ers for a quarterback, Alex Smith, and have helped him develop into a quality performer. Reid returned to play calling with the Chiefs, but he has increasingly had Pederson call more plays this season. I think they may feel that they have their guy and only need to develop him. It’s a “compliment to the hard work he’s put in and he’s done a nice job”. He said he will find a way to stay involved in the game and with players, because his wife wouldn’t want him home for more than 48 hours. Haslam reportedly stayed away from the owner’s meetings, where topics like relocation to Los Angeles is being discussed, in order to focus on his own head coaching search. This is not what they want to do. Has a 10-23 career record as a head coach. “In terms of an offensive mind, I don’t know how much better they get”. He understands defenses, what they present.
“It’s kind of a neat thing for the guys that have that opportunity”, he said.
