Howard University Tightens Security After an Anonymous User Posts Online Death
Officials at Howard University in Washington D.C. said the school learned about a threatening online post Wednesday night on social media.
Earlier today, Howard President Wayne Frederick alerted the students of the threat and said that the campus has taken the proper precautionary measures.
“This is an ongoing investigation”, Frederick wrote.
Howard has not provided further details to local media, other than to say that the threat was directed towards it student and campus. He asked students to “stay vigilant and to report any suspicious activity”.
This incident comes merely days after similar threats were made on the University of Missouri’s campus.
The threat mentions violence taking place at the university at 10 a.m., but no violence has been reported. An S&T spokeswoman says technology was used to try to make it appear the post was made from the Rolla campus, but it wasn’t.
Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla confirmed that 19-year-old Hunter M. Park is a student there.
Students at the school had been standing in solidarity with black students at the University of Missouri, where school officials were ousted this week over complaints of racism.
An image of the post, in which a direct threat is made against any black person still on the Howard campus on Thursday, was shared to Twitter. University spokesman Mark Hornickel said Thursday it wasn’t immediately clear whether Stottlemyre would face any school disciplinary action.
Police in Missouri yesterday arrested two college students for making death threats against black students in response to the events in Columbia.
