Hoyer Applauds Calvert County School On National Blue Ribbon Recognition
Four schools in Oakland County have been named among the best in the nation, the U.S. Department of Education reported Tuesday.
More than 8,000 American schools have made the National Blue Ribbon Schools list throughout its 33-year history. We have a great combination of dedicated teachers and strong support staff who put their energy and talents into helping every child, every day, said Francis. “Congratulations to the Dougherty community on receiving this much deserved recognition”.
The two parochial schools named are Cardinal Hickey Academy and Our Lady of Lourdes School.
It was one of 335 public and private schools, 14 in Ohio and the only in Lorain County to receive the designation as part of the National Blue Ribbon Schools program. Blue Ribbon winners may fly this flag at their schools as a mark of excellence.
Representatives from each school will travel to Washington, D.C., for a recognition ceremony held by the Department of Education on November 9 and 10. Student subgroup performance and high school graduation rates are also at the highest levels.
“This honor recognizes your students’ accomplishments and the hard work and dedication that went into their success”, Duncan said in a video message to the awardees.
According to a press release from the school district, Lakewood Elementary, Myrtle Beach Intermediate, and Forestbrook Middle were among five schools nominated by the South Carolina Department of Education for the prestigious national award last school year.
