Hoyer expected to start for Texans against Jags

Coach Bill O’Brien stated Monday that Brian Hoyer is in the final stage of the NFL’s protocol concussion testing. Unfortunately, Hoyer is dealing with a concussion that has forced him to miss time, leading the Texans to go to backup T.J.

The first-place Texans (7-7), who are seeking their third AFC South title, beat the Colts 16-10 last Sunday – their first-ever win in Indianapolis.

“Obviously with any concussion you’re going to be concerned, so I don’t take it lightly, I do a lot of research”, Hoyer said. Kareem Jackson smacked Antonio Andrews less than two minutes into the game and he fumbled it into the hands of Quintin Demps, who scooped it up and took it back to the house.

Quarterback Eli Manning said on a conference call Monday that he was concerned this could be the end for Coughlin.

Quarterback shuffling will be in full effect for today’s Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans football game. They were benefited by some quarterback issues for Indianapolis as well, but they’re only focused on their own issues heading into Week 16 against the Titans. In fact, the whole division is a mess when it comes to quarterbacks outside of Jacksonville Jaguars starter Blake Bortles.

With Marcus Mariota out, Titans fans winced as Kendall Wright hobbled to the bench with a knee injury.

For the Titans, it was the precursor to another forgettable first half, one capped with a chorus of boos from the crowd of 62,153 as they jogged off the field in a 17-0 hole. “I think the secondary, when you watch the tape from yesterday, there were many, many snaps where there just really wasn’t anybody open”.

Mettenberger completed 27 of 51 passes for 234 yards with an interception, also losing a fumble when defensive end J.J. Watt strip-sacked him early in the fourth quarter.

Racking up a quarterback rating of 116.7, Weeden broke the game open in the third quarter with scoring strikes of 15 and 13 yards to wide receivers DeAndre Watkins and Nate Washington, respectively. He’s 0-9. Oddly enough, four of Mettenberger’s nine starts have come against the Texans.

Notes: O’Brien said that outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is day to day with an injured foot, but that there is no structural damage and he could play on Sunday.
