HSCOTT welcomes Bowyer in 2016
HScott Motorsports receives technical support from Hendrick Motorsports and Stewart-Haas Racing.
Bowyer will spend one season at the Harry Scott-owned team before joining Stewart Haas Racing in 2017, where he will pilot the No. 14 Chevrolet vacated by three-time champion Tony Stewart.
The team has yet to name a crew chief and auto number for Bowyer’s 2016 Sprint Cup Series run.
It’s also an opportunity for Bowyer to leave a lasting legacy and help build a young organization into a contender for race wins and championships even long after he’s gone. Bowyer will drive a Chevy for HSM, just like he will for Stewart. “That is what I want to do with HScott Motorsports next year”.
Learning in June that he was looking at a stint in the unemployment line, Bowyer set to work and quickly secured his future, but found himself in an unusual circumstance where he had to seek out a one-year package for 2016 in advance of his known move to Stewart-Haas a year later.
HSM now fields two Cup teams with drivers Justin Allgaier and Michael Annett.
On Friday during a rainout at Dover global Speedway, Bowyer revealed what he’ll be doing for the year in between.
Scott believes the addition of a top-level driver accompanied with a top sponsor in 5-Hour Energy can help bring out the true potential of his organization.
“At the end of the year, I ain’t going to be 16th”, Bowyer said. Allgaier could be the odd man out if the team stays at two cars.
“And when I leave there, I want to be able to leave there (with) him having a winning organization and an established team to where he can put the next driver in and go for broke just like he did with us”. He is now 25th in the points standings and failed to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship for the third consecutive year.
Stewart has 48 Cup victories and is a lock for NASCAR’s Hall of Fame.
“This doesn’t seem like anything that’s insane, out-of-the-box, to me, as far as the rules change”, Logano said. Its lone win was at Talladega in 2009 with Brad Keselowski. Allgaier sits 30th in points, Annett is 36th and neither qualified for the playoffs. “With his experience, his leadership and his enthusiasm, I think it will be contagious amongst all the team members”. “Harry came into this series knowing he wasn’t going to become a Rick Hendrick or Chip Ganassi overnight. That’s what happens, and I’m in favor of it. It’s a good call, and I am excited to see how it plays out”.
