Huawei launches P10 range of smartphones at Mobile World Congress
Where there has been a notable step forward with the P10 and P10+, though, is in the special two new colour shades the phone has been created in.
For its reprise in 2017, Huawei returns with the P10, a phone that’s very much faithful to the P9, though this time it has an extra couple of tricks borrowed from Apple’s iPhone playbook plus an updated spec sheet to make it ready for another tough year of mobile competition.
Both the P10 and P10 Plus will ship running EMUI 5.1, Huawei’s custom take on Android 7.0.
Press render of the Huawei P10, Huawei’s upcoming flagship smartphone that’s expected to be unveiled at MWC 2017. Which one has the better display? To answer this, let’s put both the devices against each other and see who emerges as a clear victor. Both the P10 and P10 Plus can play all the usual file formats – including MP3, WMA, WAV and FLAC – and support up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. Both the phones also come with a front-mounted under-glass fingerprint scanner. The front is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, while the back is encased in Gorilla Glass 5.
The Huawei P10 is stupidly thin.
The phones are available in a total of eight colour choices, a result of a cross-industry partnership with the Pantone Color Institute, including Greenery, Dazzling Blue, Rose Gold, Prestige Gold, Ceramic White, Mystic Silver, Dazzling Gold and Graphite Black.
The P10 and P10 Plus have a USB-C charging port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
While the P10 comes with a 5.1-inch Full-HD display, the P10 Plus has a 5.5-inch 2K screen. The video provided a detailed specification of both the new smartphones by the company. The P10 and P10 Plus leverage the same Kirin 960 processor used in the Mate 9 with enhanced hardware and software application capabilities.
When it comes to RAM, 4GB is what you get with either phone, no matter what storage size. Not only this, Huawei has included in a new “Ultra Memory” technology which uses less memory for faster performance.
This is where it gets interesting.
Huawei also notes it has incorporated the fingerprint sensor directly into the front screen, removing the navigation bar to make yet more screen space. Similar to the Mate 9, there is optical image stabilization as well, along with a dual-tone LED flash. The functioning of the dual camera setup is completely different on both the devices. And as with the P9, these cameras are Leica-branded.
Huawei’s association with Leica extends beyond the rear camera this time, as even the front camera comes with a Leica-certified lens with f/1.9 aperture.
Rear camera Leica Duo 2.0 with 12-megapixel colour/20-meg monochrome sensors, f2.2 lens. P10 Plus will be launched under 64GB variant with 4GB RAM, and 128GB variant with 6GB RAM. It runs on Android 7.0.
As far as differences between the two models, they’re mostly as you’d expect. The smartphone is definitely able of taking on the likes of Samsung and Apple. The Huawei P10 is powered by a 3200 mAh battery, while the P10 plus has a lager battery capacity of 3750 mAh, both of which support “SuperCharge”, which is nearly comparable to the latest Quick Charge.
According to Android Authority, which has had exclusive details regarding the coming of the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus in Canada, the two phones could also be unveiled in the USA through tier one operators, but so far, this cannot be confirmed.
P10 is the first to support the 4.5G LTE technology.
