Hugh Bonneville Reassures Downton Abbey Fans
Downton Abbey creator and writer Julian Fellowes has promised that the sixth and final series will bring “resolution”.
By the end of the last series, Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) had patched together a solution which meant she had her child with her at the Abbey.
‘It resolves in a way that is very appropriate to the show.
Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) sport riding clothes in one pic, while another shot shows Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) dressed in her finest (and actually smiling). All is not lost however, and this might not be the end – it is no surprise that many predict a big budget Downton Abbey film will be the cast’s next endeavour. The final series will come to a close this winter and now that shooting has wrapped, the 80-year-old can reflect on the good and bad parts of being involved in the show. Hopefully fans won’t be weeping into their turkey!
“We had a fairly strong idea of where we were going”.
“We have to do what we feel is right and the audience will either love or loathe us for that, but I’m hoping that we will end up where we all feel would be the great place to end”.
“There are also some slightly delicate negotiations about under what terms they are getting married; whether as an old bachelor and spinster, or whether it will be a “full” marriage so to speak”, Carter revealed.
“He does reappear in the new series”, revealed actress Michelle Dockery.
In the previous series, Mary ended up turning down both suitors Anthony Foyle (Tom Cullen) and Charles Blake (Julian Ovenden), but the arrival of Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode) in series six may pique her interest.
We return to the Abbey in 1925 – and the world is very different from where we started in 1912.
Hugh Bonneville admitted that his character had to face up to the grim reality of his situation when Robert Crawley’s neighbour, Sir John Darnley was forced to sell his Mallerton estate. “It’s time to adapt or die”. Who will go, and will the family manage to keep the estate afloat?
The new series of Downton Abbey begins on Sunday 20 September at 9pm.
