Hugh Jackman brings Broadway to Australia
The “Broadway To Oz” concert show will play major arenas in five cities and is structured as a personal journey through Jackman’s life, from early days in outback Australia through successes in musical theater and Hollywood stardom, reports variety.com.
The genesis of the show was Jackman’s 2011 solo show Back on Broadway.
The Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe victor greeted the crowd with an breathtaking rendition of I Still Call Australia Home with the Australian girls’ choir before his announcement.
Jackman will put on his tux and his Wolverine claws for the tour to his native Australia later this year.
Known all around the world for his portrayal of the clawed mutant Wolverine in several X-Men and Wolverine films, Australian actor Hugh Jackman will be seen in a concert show.
The tour kicks off in Melbourne on November 24th, before it heads to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
His original Broadway production was one of the few Furness didn’t fall asleep in, he said. “You are going to get to know the actual me in that present”.
Along with songs from The Boy from Oz, the show’s setlist will include numbers from the musical Les Misérables. In fact, Jackman was last on Australian stages with the 2006 arena tour for Boy From Oz. Jackman said in a statement.
HUGH Jackman is returning home for a national concert tour. “I say to Deb ‘can I go do my show, is that OK?’ Because I love it!” “I will tell you what it’s like to be in my shoes – both on screen or stage and off, and growing up”.
He said the show will have an informal air, with plenty of audience interaction and told potential hecklers to “bring it on”.
