Hugh Jackman in talks to star as Odysseus
Hugh Jackman will potentially play the leading role in the upcoming film adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. His numerous film credits include the X-Men series and Les Misérables.
Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence has been tapped to helm the potential movie series, which will open with a “grand-scale retelling of history’s greatest voyage home”.
The “Wolverine” actor’s representative has confirmed to The Wrap that Jackman is in early talks with the studio to join the project.
Nina Jacobson of Color Force is producing the movie, which was written by Peter Craig. Jackman hasn’t officially signed on to star yet, but a source told the aforementioned publication that discussions are in their early stages. No release date has been set yet, but I can’t imagine we’ll be seeing it anytime soon. During his absence, his wife must deal with unruly suitors.
Jackman will next be seen in Warner Bros.’ Pan and Fox’s Eddie the Eagle with Taron Egerton. During his journey Odysseus has encounters with gods and monsters. There is also infidelity, executions, and vengeance. The book, widely taught in colleges and one of the most popular Greek tales, was previously adapted as a television miniseries in 1997 with Armand Assante as Odysseus.
