Hulk to get “interesting arc” across Thor 3 and Infinity War

“I’m absolutely blown away to be a part of something that so influential and integral in a part of our generation in regards to movie watching and this Marvel Universe, it’s absolutely incredible and if there’s a place for Volstagg then great, but right now I don’t know”.

In an interview with Collider, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi spoke about finding the humor in the script of the movie.

“I think that’s exactly what they need, to keep changing it up”, he said.

Despite his popularity with audiences, Bruce Banner a.k.a The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) has experienced a pretty rough on-screen life throughout the run of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“We’ve worked a really interesting arc into Thor 3, Avengers 3 and Avengers 4 for Banner that I think-when it’s all added up-will feel like a Hulk movie, a standalone movie”, Ruffalo said. That’s why Marvel is good they keep pushing and pushing and trying to get the best thing possible. He did, however, drop a reference about it in the first “Avengers” movie about being exposed to intense gamma radiation, which was the major cause of why he has two personalities.

Nevertheless, the 48-year-old actor added that he thinks Joss will be fine and that he misses him. Joss Whedon finally cracked the character with The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and set Banner/Hulk up to go in an interesting direction. I think the Russo brothers are great and I think they’re well positioned to take it on, and I’m happy to be doing it with them, but I’m friends with Joss.

One of the big questions fans have is how verbal and conscious the Hulk will be in this film. That’s a surprise and it fits part of this Marvel doing the unexpected, casting the unexpected, and now bringing in the unexpected for writer and director. “I think it’s partially the nature of that beast”.

Sitting in the center of Sundance, the independent film Mecca, talking about one of Marvel’s upcoming releases, I couldn’t help but wonder if there is a real bridge between those two worlds: the arthouse and the blockbuster.

Speaking about the script, the actor dished, “They’re writing the script now”.

As of right now, not a huge amount is known about Thor: Ragnarok, with Chris Hemsworth being the only confirmed cast member and Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo and Cate Blanchett all likely to join him.

“They have a record making out there and exciting choices and I think what they said to me was, ‘We want it to be amusing and try a whole new tack”.
