Hull 0 Manchester City 3: Yaya Toure’s resurgence continues under Pep Guardiola
It could be a tough game for Hull with Manchester City chasing a hat-trick of wins and, with Chelsea now winning at Bournemouth, City will be keen to stay in contention.
Mike Phelan felt Hull City – and Andrew Robertson in particular – were dealt a harsh lesson by Manchester City in their 3-0 Boxing Day defeat. The Tigers are rock bottom of the Premier League and have only won one of their last ten league matches. Against Guardiola’s Man City, well, let’s not hope much from them.
77′ – GOAL! Hull City 0-2 Manchester City.
Defeat was harsh on Hull, who have won just once in the league since August, after a battling display nearly saw them take the lead when Bacary Sagna cleared off the line from Michael Dawson. “We can work with what we have and if we finish the season with these players that will be good”.
Even without striker Sergio Aguero, Hull know they have an uphill challenge tonight. Davies scored an own goal and it was 3-0. “Hopefully we can get some results”.
After watching his side secure a third successive Premier League victory Guardiola declared: “It’s not enough”.
“What I have learned in my short period here is that the gap between the first 10 and the last 10 is not a big difference”. Bravo didn’t inspire confidence: he needed Bacary Sagna to bail him out with a goal-line clearance after he came for a cross and stopped. We have to be prepared.
“Hull started quite well”.
Neither side managed to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League last season, leaving them with the Premier League as their only major concern in a regular week. Second guessing the Spaniard’s team selection is nigh on impossible, but if pushed I would see him going with the same team that did the business against Arsenal.
The Tigers then piled on their own pressure which began from a Robert Snodgrass free-kick which he whipped into the box, which eventually earned the hosts a corner after City just about cleared the ball away.
