Hundreds gather in Downtown LA for International Women’s Day rally
Women across the USA might join nation-wide strike on Wednesday and not go to work.
Many women’s magazines will continue operations as usual, but with increased focus on International Women’s Day, women’s issues and the strike itself.
The teachers are also protesting four years without a raise. The movement has gained momentum following the well-attended women’s march events held across the country after President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Several schools in at least three states are closing Wednesday so teachers can participate in “A Day Without a Woman” strike in which organizers are urging female workers to stay home.
Organizers say they hope to bring attention to the gender pay gap, sexual harassment and discrimination.
Parents in Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland were especially irate after the district announced school closures at the last minute on Tuesday night.
Over 930 teachers in the School District of Philadelphia did not show up Wednesday, although it’s unclear how many of those absences were related to the “A Day Without a Woman” protest.
“One would be to take the day off of work if that’s a possibility”.
While many school districts are not planning for any disruptions on Wednesday, a few districts nationwide have made a decision to shutdown for the day during the “A Day Without A Woman” protests.
Today is “Day Without a Woman” day, created to raise the awareness and significance of women’s work.
“We’re taking a stand and spending the first 15 minutes off the floor so that people can better understand what the Colorado General Assembly would look like without women”, said Rep. Leslie Herod, D-Denver. “We apologize for this unforeseen burden on parents and thank you for your patience and understanding”, said Superintendent Alvin Crawley.
“While Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools values and supports its female employees, the decision to close schools is not a political statement”.
The New School in NY and a Brooklyn preschool will also be closing their doors in solidarity.

A similar protest took place across the country on February 16 when people protested Trump’s immigration policies in “A Day Without Immigrants”.
