Hundreds Sign Petition Asking ‘Emmerdale’ Makers To Pull Helicopter Crash
The petition says: ‘Show some respect to the Clutha Disaster victims and families by not running a storyline about a helicopter crash on Emmerdale.
The guests at Pete and Debbie’s wedding are not the only Emmerdale residents whose lives hang in the balance after the dramatic helicopter crash this week. At least one major cast member will be killed off.
But the Clutha Trust support group has compared the narrative to the tragic incident in 2013, when a police helicopter smashed into the Clutha Vaults pub in Stockwell Street, Glasgow, killing 10 people.
Over 800 people have already signed the petition on Change.org, calling the plotline “disrespectful and insensitive”.
Ms McGhee wrote: “I’m signing because my father was killed in this accident and I find it disgusting that people want to use it as a storyline”.
Morag Lennox, from Glasgow, who additionally signed the petition, stated: “We the individuals of Glasgow are nonetheless coming to phrases with the loss on the Clutha”.
In a statement, an ITV spokesman added: ‘The helicopter crash circumstances are very different to any real life cases that we are aware of.
In the episode, the fictional crash is caused when character Chrissie Sugden (played by Louise Marwood) sets fire to her husband Robert’s (Ryan Hawley) vehicle in an argument about an affair he’s having.
She said: “I think editorially, whenever you’re looking at any potential disaster scenario you have to consider it very carefully”.
“It was so intense, the pressure was really high, we all had to be on our A game, crew especially and so how everyone pulled it off, I was just blown away. Gas canisters are ignited and explode into the air striking the helicopter”. “It’s set up over a scrapyard, over a marital dispute, where a gas canister explodes and it’s a chain of events” she said.
Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David in the soap, gives us a sneak peek video insight into the plot in this video spoiler, as he made his way round the village and the key characters involved.
