Hunt on for mother of baby buried alive in California
Sheriff’s deputies combed the area and found the newborn, deliberately buried under debris and pieces of asphalt in a small crevice at the edge of the path. The officers pulled the newborn baby girl out and checked her vitals.
Jaramilla said two deputies found the girl around 4 p.m. after people on the bike path heard her cries and called authorities.
A newborn was rescued after being buried alive under the asphalt of a walkway and bike path in Compton, Calif., police said.
According to deputies, the baby was cold to the touch and was wrapped in a hospital-issued blanket.
“My sister said, ‘Can you hear a baby crying?’ And I said no, I don’t know”, Blount told CBS Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department urges anyone who may be in a hard situation with a child to surrender them at any hospital or fire station in the county, no questions asked. “And she said, ‘No, that is a baby'”. You know, you need to go to jail. “Some parents of newborns can find themselves in hard circumstances”.
Police have appealed for information on the infant’s mother. Indeed, ABC7 reports that the person who discarded the child could face attempted murder and child endangerment charges. Los Angeles County has a safe haven law, which allows parents to give up an infant without fear or prosecution within 72 hours after the baby is born. Once the unharmed babies are given to someone at a designated entity, the child becomes a ward of the state and could ultimately be placed in foster care or up for adoption.
